Dealing with Griefers Part 4:
Home Sweet Home

For the most part, SL gives us the tools we need to simply ignore griefers, without the need to run away. Mute to ignore unwanted chatter and Sit to ignore unwanted pushing. Use a Non-Physical Vehicle to move around freely amidst griefers and even pass right through their cages undeterred.

If you are entrapped in a heavy cage which simply seeks to pin you to the ground, you can easily sit your way out of the cage and continue on your way but if a griefer hits you with a weapon designed to "orbit" you (throw you high into the air or otherwise push you far away at great speed), and you are not already sitting, you likely won't have time to find something to sit on after the hit. This is when you may want to teleport home.

Simply hit Ctrl-Shift-H on your keyboard or access the Teleport Home feature through your World menu.

Alternatively, you can just wait for your avatar to fall back to the ground (the landing may look uncomfortable but you cannot truly be physically damaged in SL). The snag to this approach, however, is that the griefer may be waiting around, hoping to orbit you a second time, and there is a possibility that the orbit will get your avatar moving quickly enough that you are disconnected from SL's servers and need to re-log.

Better to simply teleport home. Then, if you wish to return to your last location, pick a spot on the map nearby, teleport there, rez your non-physical vehicle and ride it back to your original location, now free to roam around, immune to the griefer's orbiter.

Your Second Life home is a great place to which to retreat for a little peace and quiet. Not only do you have a quick means to teleport there, but, if you own the land or have land officer privileges on the land, Second Life provides you with many options for keeping your home safe and secure from griefers. Read on for details.
